A play on words, The Archer explores the theme of nerve and backbone both physically and metaphorically. “Untried fervor fills her quiver, Untamed vigor favors her bow” speaks to the ability possessed by the archer as she sets her sights and resolve. I convey this through the contour of the arms and forward lean of the figure.

THE ARCHER

So high and dry on the rock cliffs,
Yet wind burns rocks, and rocks dissolve.
Following the call of the “what if’s”,
She sets her sights and her resolve.

Arch the back, expand the chest,
Light the fire, the trail ablaze.
Unfold fingers fully expressed,
Draw near desire, forego safe ways.

Untried fervor fills her quiver,
Untamed vigor favors her bow.
Only a try will deliver,
Pull the arrow just to let go.

She has the mark in sight, the aim
Hopes tethered tightly to the reeds
Reeds feathered brightly with the flame
Release the string, ignite the need
