Tied in Knots captures the unrestrained enthusiasm shared between two best friends.  The figures are intertwined physically yet moving forward.  This particular sculpture is tricky to cast.  The silhouettes create spaces between the torsos and legs.  The vorticity of the figures’ skirts and legs is central to the sculpture’s joy and levity.

TIED IN KNOTS

We could be battling,
or just sword rattling,
Taunting life mercilessly.
But all our stories,
Troubles and glories,
Tie us in knots, you and me.

We could be cowering,
with wrathful gods towering,
Firing their comets with glee.
But we have winged feet,
To chase, charm, or cheat,
Heroes of heists, you and me.

We could be babbling,
Slow, stale, and straggling,
Our wits finally lost at sea.
But have I seen us,
Basking in genius?
Minds like steel traps, you and me.

We could be wandering,
With purpose or sauntering,
Going forth scarred or carefree.
But on the rough parts,
with flaws and false starts,
we stayed, never left, you and me.
