PAS DE DEUX was inspired by the epic bond formed between the the two protagonists of the novel “This is How You Lose a Time War”. The two figures are entwined -even aligned in their desires. Yet, their opening gambits contrast in every detail. Face the world or introspect, Furled in or billow. The shoulders, arms and heads rest in the same plane. However, the tension pulls in opposite directions. Intricate, powerful, stirring.

I hold
Breathtaking
Sight of you awaking
Robe of loose silk unrolled.

I draw
You in me
Like a breath not a plea,
But a prayer full of awe.

I break
Like a dam
The sweet rush, roar, and slam
Of my soul by your wake.

Do I
Have you still?
Do I sate your freewill?
Slay or stoke with my sigh?

We began as a bet, as a boast, as a pose,
Entwined in the grand pas de deux we chose.
Our imperfect selves trust a heart divine,
As mine on yours so yours is on mine.

Like a Psalm
Sung by you. Your warm palm
thrums grace notes and spins gold.

I bend

Flex our full panoply.
Artfully we extend.

Blooms from ash by your touch
Half a heart grows so full.
